"280. - Afrique Occidentale / Montanes du Macina / Sépultures de Habibès à l'intérieur les plus / retirés et les plus inaccessibles de la / falaise." showing a native boy & several skulls at the entrance to the Mali_280_Cemetery.jpg (176025 bytes)caves serving as burial places for the Habibès tribe. Then in French Soudan, now in Mali. Surely one of the most inaccessible places on earth; if you have ever seen a view of the village Bandiagara set against the Macina Mountains, with the cave entraces distant & high on the cliffs, you will believe it. The publisher, Fortier in Dakar Sénégal counted this amongst his best views, and added his advertising to the back of this example: "POST CARDS / Great choice of wiews(sic) and / natives of whole / West Africa. / COLLECTION FORTIER / on sale at FORTIER / CLOSE TO POST-OFFICE". Because of the error in the advertising, it is not likely that many were distributed like this. One of the best African postcards we have ever seen, and worthy of the finest collections of cemeteries or of French West Africa. $75.00 mfc
