Flew for KLM from September 1946 to July 1950, it next went to Capital Airlines, then United Airlines. The logo "The Flying Dutchman" is conspicuously painted on the aircraft seen here, the same phrase that is now used to identify in KLM's frequent flyer program. "U.S.S. WEST-MADAKET In the Port of Rotterdam / 1-18-19" unused real photo postcard, image printed at an angle to the edges, noticeable edge wear & toning both sides. Commissioned in late October 1918, this was her first (delivering flour) of only 2 trips in World War I; decommissioning was in May 1919. We doubt there are many photos of this ship from that brief period in existence.
