The Steel Steamer Ireland was registered to the Gilchrist Transportation Company in Cleveland; the names Gilchrist & Ireland are plainly visible on the bow. Uncaptioned photograph the size of a regular postcard with  a side view of a steam locomotive with 3 passenger cars exiting a car ferry. Given the source & the material we found it with, this scene might be one of the car ferries that crossed Lake Michigan for several railroads. $3.00 s(l)

at speed on a windy Lake Erie day, shoreline & steamer in view; mailed 1909 at Sandusky Ohio. Message on back explains: '... you ask me how is the Boat well here she is on her way to Plasterbed ... the Steamer G. A. Boeckling in the distance ...' [South Plasterbed Road runs a good distance along the upper northern shore of Sandusky Bay, further confirming the location.] Interesting message concludes with the writer C. Schrenk [a Sandusky family] commenting that he plans to make the boat 'longer and higher'. In 1927 she was renamed the South Park & in 1933 she helped prepare the site of the Chicago World's Fair.
