One of the earliest ships built by them (earliest hull number 269), it was delivered to Britain in November 1942, and sank off the west coast of England in 1944. The company mentioned later became the Bay Shipbuilding Company, which is now the last active builder of large ships on the Great Lakes. Postcard sold. The Steamer Eastland capsized in the Chicago River 7/14/15 with horrific loss of life. Over 1200 people perished. The postcards showing this ship and the disaster became instant collectors items and are elusive to this date. These postcards are in collectible condition. No dogs. A minor fault here or there that is insignificant because of their historic importance. The postcards in the collection:
